A Focus on Quality and Value

In 1989, hardly anyone outside of South America had even heard of Chilean wines. Today, Chile is the third largest wine exporter in the world.

The quality of the wines has grown tremendously during that period, with Wine Enthusiast recently recognizing them as "some of the most compelling wines in the world" (2005).

Yet the prices remain reasonable. As the Wall Street Journal has noted: "some of the greatest bargains…are coming from Chile, excellent wines that should cost more but luckily don't."

That is a recipe for what has always been our main focus: providing exceptional value in fine wines.

At Viña La Playa, our commitment to quality begins in the vineyards, where we nurture the vines to their greatest potential with the most modern methods such as vertical trellising and biodynamics.

Optimal vineyard management practices, of course, need production facilities that do them justice. Our winery features state-of-the-art European-made stainless steel equipment, with the newest generation of French presses, destemmers, and must pumps for gentle processing of the fruit. Barrel aging is carried out in a variety of both French and American oak.

We invest in the continuous education and training of our staff to keep abreast of the latest viticultural and enological techniques. And we solicit the advice of international consultants to help us maximize the quality of our wines while keeping our operations economical - we are always striving for value.

For both philosophical and practical reasons, we are committed to environmentally friendly agricultural and manufacturing methods. We are currently in the process of obtaining the ISO 14000 certification (Environmental Management Systems), which will better enable us to make efficient use of energy and raw materials (with less waste), as well as to comply with environmental regulations.
